This workshop is a three day excursion to one of Utah’s best National Parks where we will spend a day in the Narrows. The best way to experience it is with a full wet suit which is included in the price. The Narrows is a challenging experience that you will remember for a life time. The first day will be spent getting into town where we will check in to our place of stay in Springdale which is literally just outside the gateway to the park. We will have dinner and go over any questions or details that you may have before the big trek.
On the second day, we will get up early and head to Zion Adventure Company where we will get suited up and prepare for our drive into the park. Once we get to the start of the trailhead, it’s about a mile to the start of the narrows and that’s when the fun begins! The water can get pretty deep in some areas (about chest high) so just follow my lead and you should avoid these spots. Winter run off may result in higher than normal water flows, but this is something that we will work with as a group.
The narrows can be a very exhausting experience, so we will terminate our hike at a place called “Wallstreet” and take a lunch break there. We will head out shortly after and then get back to our rooms to get cleaned up for dinner. The following day, we can hang around the park in the morning and head home after lunch.
- There is a maximum occupancy of 8 people for this Workshop.
About the terrain:
There will be considerable hiking involved on this workshop so please know your limits. The Narrows, especially with higher water flow can be a very physically demanding hike after the first mile. The rocks below the water can be slippery and this is why the hike can take much longer than normal to traverse a single mile. No one gets left behind, so we will move together for safety and follow the leader so you don’t end up in chest deep water or worse. The elevation at the narrows as well as the rest of the valley floor os Zion is roughly an average of 4,000 ft(1,219.2 m) above sea level.
In regards to temperature, The park can reach Summer averages of 99ºF(37.2ºC) and during the Winter, the temperatures can reach an average low of 29ºF(-1.6ºC).
